FUTURE LAWYER SCHOLARSHIPS

The goal of the WBA Future Lawyer Scholarship program is to recognize and encourage a spirit of
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT AND CITIZENSHIP
among high school students residing in The Woodlands, Texas, and the surrounding area.
The WBA seeks to support the next generation of young lawyers in our community.
We are pleased to offer four (4) $1,500 Future Lawyer Scholarships:

The Kevin T. Shea Memorium Scholarship
The Ida G. Stewart Memorium Scholarship
The Patricia Chapman Scholarship
Our scholarships are open to graduating seniors who are residents of The Woodlands
or Montgomery County at the time of their application, regardless of the high school attended
(public, private, home school, etc.).
Applicants must be in good standing at their school at the time of the application.
They must attend a four (4) year university in the fall of 2024 or, in the alternative,
attend a community college with the intention to matriculate to a four (4) year university
at the completion of their course of study at the community college.

ALL APPLICANTS MUST:
(1) Have an interest in attending law school upon completion of an undergraduate program; and
(2) Must aspire to become an attorney.

Applicants for the Shea, Stewart, and Wham & Rogers Scholarships
Must Satisfy the Following Criteria:
(1) Financial Need,
(2) Academic Performance,
(3) Extracurricular Activities & Community Involvement, and
(4) Letters of Recommendation*.

Applicants for the Chapman Scholarship
Must Satisfy the Following Criteria:
(1) Extracurricular Activities,
(2) Good Citizenship,
(3) Community Involvement,
(4) Demonstration of a Strong Interest in Pursuing a Legal Career, and
(5) Letters of Recommendation*.

*Please note that for all scholarships, the personal statement provided by the applicant will be given greater consideration than the recommendations.

The WBA Scholarship Committee, consisting of at least one (1) WBA Board member, will review applications.
A personal interview of the applicants may also be requested at the sole discretion of the Committee.
Only complete applications will be considered. The application portal will open on FRIDAY, JANUARY 5, 2024.
Completed applications must be received no later than 11:00 pm on FRIDAY, MARCH 22, 2024.
Scholarship recipients will be notified of the award by FRIDAY, MAY 3, 2024.
Scholarship recipients will be presented with a token in recognition of the award
at The WBA Annual Meeting in MAY 2024 (date and location TBA).
The recipients' attendance at the award ceremony is expected.
The scholarship award amount will be credited directly to the recipient's student account
at their university once accepted and enrolled.
